The Moon a pearl of light
Mother & Child, Ancestors
meditating on eternal impermanence.
“Let the waters settle
and you will see the moon and the stars
mirrored in your own being.”
-Rumi (Persia, 1207-1273)
Moon Viewing terraces are common in Japan.
Filled with poetic meaning, the moon reflects the Sun.
Though not as heroic, it softly lights the night, counts the days, increases the mystery and is a reminder to slow down.
This painting was originally titled Dogen’s Moon after the Zen Monk who brought seated mediation to Japan in the early 1200’s.
“The whole moon and the entire sky
are reflected in one dewdrop on a blade of grass.”
- Dōgen (Japan, 1200-1253)
